Her real name is Patricia Altschul, although she was born Patricia Madelyn Day on April 16, 1941, in Jacksonville, Florida. As a child, she and her family lived in Richmond, Virginia, where her mother, Francis, was a school teacher and her father, Walter, was a doctor. She attended Marymount School and Olney Friends School.
Patricia graduated from George Washington University in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in archaeology and in 1965 with a master’s degree in art history. After that, she earned a magna cum laude.

The Career of Patricia Altschul
At George Washington University, after receiving her master’s degree, Patricia worked first as an instructor and then as an assistant professor in the art history department. Arcadia, a private art gallery in Georgetown, was established by her after that. Altschul made a cameo in the 2010 documentary “Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston. Whitney Altschul, Altschul’s son, wrote and directed the film.
To present a “real-life glimpse at how modern-day Southern aristocracy lives in Charleston, South Carolina,” Whitney created the reality television program “Southern Charm” in 2014. As the title of Whitney’s program explains, “A Real-Life Look at the Modern-Day Southern Aristocracy.” As of this writing, Patricia has appeared in more than 60 episodes of the show. Hayes Smith and Patricia married in 1962 and had a son together, Whitney (born June 2, 1968). They separated in 1979. The wealthy businessman and physician Edward Stitt
Fleming was the subject of her first marriage, which lasted for five years, from 1989 to 1995. She married Arthur Altschul in 1996.
Arthur and Patricia were married until 2002, when Arthur died away. Arthur was a general partner at Goldman Sachs & Company, a co-founder of General American Investors, and a limited partner there simultaneously.

Patricia was asked to join the boards of the Rockefeller family Hudson Hills Trust and the New York Historical Society because of her prominence in New York and philanthropic efforts. It was in 1997 that the Altschuls bought a 30-room Long Island estate, and Patricia sold it for $12.5 million in 2009. In 2008, she paid $4.8 million for the Isaac Jenkins Mikell House in Charleston. When it was built in 1853 as a library, the 9,500-square-foot home now has ten bedrooms.

Pro Merito and Carolopolis Awards were given to Patricia in 2013 for her renovation of a historic house in Charleston, South Carolina. The upgrades are said to have cost her more than $5 million.
