A point during Chicago P.D. Season 10 will see the departure of the actor who plays Det. Jay Halstead.
In a statement to Variety on Monday, he said, “I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support during the past 10 years and want to express my deepest gratitude to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan, NBC, Universal Television, my fellow castmates, and our incredible crew.”
Making this weekly hour-long drama is a labor of love for everyone involved. My tenure as Detective Jay Halstead is something of which I will never be ashamed.
In recent seasons, as the show has represented the shift in police in the United States, Halstead has become an important character, serving as a conscience for his employer, Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), who previously would do whatever it needed to get the job done. At this point, Voight relies on Halstead to steer the unit in the proper direction.
Soffer told Monsters & Critics when the show’s tone shifted, “We portray officers who are humans first, and people aren’t black and white.”
Everyone has a boundary that, if crossed, may lead them to do anything, regardless of their moral compass or ethical code, since everyone lives in the grey area. If a family member were hurt or if your spouse was being held at gunpoint, you may do something illegal.
In addition, Soffer’s character is married on the show to Soffer’s fellow cop, Det. Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), so it will be fascinating to see how their relationship is resolved. What will happen to Halstead, who has deep links to the Intelligence Unit? Will he be moved there or eliminated?
On Chicago P.D., you may also see the likes of Marina Squerciati as Kim Burgess, Patrick Flueger as Adam Razak, LaRoyce Hawkins as Kevin Atwater, and Amy Morton as Trudy Platt, in addition to Soffer, Beghe, and Spiradakos.
Benjamin Levy Aguilar, who appeared as a guest actor in the Season 9 finale as Dante Torres, will join the cast permanently for Season 10.
On September 21st, NBC will air the premiere of the tenth season of Chicago P.D.
