Charlie Haden News: Every day this week, we’ll be featuring one of our greatest music interviews from the past and talking about it with you. We’ll listen to various interviews with the late great bass player and jazz legend Charlie Haden.

Due to polio, Haden was unable to continue singing on his family’s country music radio shows, so he switched to bass.

As a member of the Ornette Coleman Quartet, he was at the forefront of a musical upheaval in the late 1950s and early 1960s. When he recorded with his triplet daughters, wife, and son, he switched back to more traditional music, but he also formed his own jazz bands.
