In her role as Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde,” Ana de Armas is receiving some of the highest praise of her career, but she is also aware that her naked sequences will end up receiving the most attention online. The star remarked, “I know what’s going to go viral, and it’s awful,” in an interview for her Variety cover story.
On September 28th, audiences all around the world will be able to see “Blonde” on Netflix and share clips and pictures from the film. Although Ana de Armas is well aware that her film’s naked sequences would go viral online, she was never deterred from playing Monroe on screen.
Ana de Armas on ‘Blonde’ Nude Scenes Going Viral
Just contemplating it makes me sad. When asked about the removal of her naked sequences from the film, de Armas replied, “I can’t control it; you can’t really control what they do and how they take things out of context.” I don’t believe I had second thoughts, but it did leave a nasty taste in my mouth whenever I considered those clips’ potential in the future.
Earlier in the cover story interview, Ana de Armas spoke about the risks she took to portray Monroe, saying, “I did things in this movie I would have never done for anybody else, ever.” The reason I helped her and Andrew is that I wanted to.
At the international premiere of “Blonde” at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, De Armas received the longest ovation of the festival: 14 minutes. Despite the film’s mixed reviews, virtually all reviewers agree that de Armas’ performance as the Hollywood legend is compelling.
The picture is structured around a performance, by Ana de Armas, of astounding sheen and inventiveness and sincerity and anguish, Variety reviewer Owen Gleiberman said. A visceral scream is hidden within this wonderful piece of acting. … Although no living actress can perfectly capture Monroe’s physical likeness, de Armas’s vocal impersonation of Monroe is spot-on. To put it simply, in “Blonde,” she delivers just what we expected and more. Like Marilyn Monroe, she transforms.
