Ryan Grantham from Riverdale, Gets Life in Prison for Killing His Mother.

The future of Ryan Grantham is now clear.

According to a statement acquired by E! News on September 22 from BC Prosecution Services, the 24-year-old actor, who previously appeared on the CW series Riverdale, was sentenced to life in prison with the chance of release in 14 years. At his sentence on September 20th, the court also ordered Grantham to be permanently disarmed. According to the statement, if convicted of second-degree murder in British Columbia, the offender must serve a life sentence and must also agree to never own or use a handgun again.

Ryan Grantham’s lawyer, Chris Johnson, told E! News following Grantham’s sentencing that his client has “worked incredibly hard to turn his life around” since his incarceration.

The statement from Johnson said, “He has gotten a lot of psychiatric support and he has battled with what he’s done and confronting that, but he wants to be able to spend the remainder of his life making apologies.”

According to a statement acquired by E! News from Dan McLaughlin of the BC Prosecution Service in June, the British Columbia Supreme Court accepted his guilty plea in March to second-degree murder in the case of his mother’s death.

Prosecutors said that Grantham shot his mother Barbara Waite in the back of the head as she played the piano in their home in March 2020, as reported by CBC News correspondent Karin Larsen, who practically attended the sentencing hearing in June. Grantham, then 21 years old, admitted to the crime in a video in which he also videotaped his mother’s body.

The next day, Ryan Grantham reportedly loaded his vehicle with firearms, ammunition, and Molotov cocktails before setting out for Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, where he intended to assassinate Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Grantham, however, redirected his automobile and returned to Simon Fraser University and the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver, where he planned to execute mass murder.

Instead of carrying out his plan, Ryan Grantham went to the Vancouver police later that night and confessed, “I murdered my mother.”

In June, Crown prosecutor Michaela Donnelly used two medical assessments to argue that before murdering his mother, Ryan Grantham was experiencing violent impulses and severe depression.

The third and last day of Grantham’s hearing in June was spent with the judge listening to a statement he had prepared reflecting on his conduct.

It’s painful to reflect on how much time I’ve squandered, he remarked. “Saying “I’m sorry” in the face of such a terrible event feels futile. But I mean it when I say I’m really sorry.”

Aside from that, you may recognize him from the movies Becoming Redwood and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
