It’s safe to say that Sam Smith is back and more dangerous than ever. The famous singer performed at the T-Mobile Arena on Friday, September 23 for the 2022 iHeartRadio Musical Festival. Smith, who is most renowned for their amazing vocals on sad ballads, teased their next album with a few new songs that showcase their range.
The four-time Grammy winner was welcomed onstage by Lance Bass, Coco Montrese, and Alexis Mateo, all of whom are prominent members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Outfitted in a sparkly mesh shirt and a black jacket, Smith began their concert by returning to the two songs that started it all: “Stay” and “I’m Not The Only One” from their platinum-selling first album In the Lonely Hour from 2014. Smith incited the enthusiastic participation of the audience in both anthems. Smith’s 2019 song “How Do You Sleep?” continued to focus on heartache despite an increase in tempo.
Sam Smith Ushers In A New Musical Era
Smith stopped to express his appreciation for the audience and the performance. They said, “This feels amazing!” in reference to the cessation of live music performances caused by the COVID-19 epidemic. The singer then debuted “Unholy,” their newest single, which features fellow pop diva Kim Petras, live at the event.
Sam Smith remarked after the song was released the day before their performance at the event, “I’ve never had so much fun recording a record, so I hope you can all go crazy and UNHOLY to it.” Petras herself made an appearance under a red light to sing the seductive new song.
Keeping the dance theme going, Smith and Disclosure’s first major song, “Latch,” was performed. Finally, Smith performed “Dancing With A Stranger” starring Normani without their jackets.
On October 7 and 8, from 8:00 to 10:00 PM ET, The CW will telecast a two-night television special featuring Sam Smith’s heavenly voice and all of the wonderful performances in case you missed it the first time around.
