Shania Twain alleges a meal with Oprah Winfrey on religion ‘turned nasty’

In reference to her discussion about faith with Oprah Winfrey, Shania Twain remarked, “It simply wasn’t disputed.”

According to Shania Twain, a religious discussion during dinner with Oprah Winfrey became tense.

Country singer Jennie 57, originally from Canada, recalls having one of her “most memorable meals” with talk show star Jennie 68, also during an appearance on the Table Manners podcast presented by Jennie and Lennie Ware.

Shania Twain said, “She is just such a brilliant person and it’s simply nice to sit and have actual discussions,” after mentioning that the two had dinner together.

But the minute we began talking about religion, the mood turned bad, she said.

And so I replied, ‘Hey, let’s not speak about religion,'” the “You’re Still The One” singer said.

Further, Twain said that Winfrey is “very pious.” When Ware (then 37) inquired as to Twain’s religious convictions, Twain responded as follows: “It would be inaccurate to say that I am not religious. Truth be told, I’m a lot more of a spiritual person.”

I’m a seeker, she continued.

But at least you know to just end it right then, Ware remarked.

Twain conceded, “Right.” “It’s true what they say: ‘Never discuss religion or politics.'”

The five-time Grammy winner said, “It simply wasn’t disputed.” “In this case, there was no space for argument. And I like a good argument. It seems like no topic is off-limits for a Canadian discussion. So I decided to shift gears and talk about something else.”

Winfrey has publicly declared her Christian faith, and she credits her upbringing in the Baptist church. She may pray nightly, but she doesn’t call herself a traditionalist since she doesn’t go to church every Sunday, she said in an interview with in 2015.

Ware prompted the discussion by inquiring about Twain’s favorite dinners of the ’90s, but the hitmaker didn’t reveal when exactly he and the media mogul had their meal together.

In the past, Twain often visited Winfrey on her chat program, The Oprah Winfrey Show. The singer and presenter sat down for their first interview in almost five years in May of 2011; throughout the course of the conversation, she opened up about her difficult divorce from Robert “Mutt” Lange.

She went on to say that she had been treated for Lyme disease and dysphonia, a disorder of the vocal cords that left her with a hoarse voice, which she admitted she had been hiding from the public.

A six-part documentary series titled “Why Not? with Shania Twain” premiered on Winfrey’s Own Network on May 8, 2011.

Twain promoted her first new single in five years, “Waking Up Dreaming,” by making an appearance on the Table Manners podcast.

A new solo album, her first since 2017’s “Now,” is now in the works, as she previously indicated.
