TennisSection previews the 32nd round match between Casper Ruud and Jaume Munar at the Tokyo Open 2022 on Monday, October 3rd.
What are the odds of Casper Ruud coming out on top? Could underdog Jaume Munar pull off the win? The matchup between the top seed and a potentially formidable first-round opponent promises to be an exciting one. Who will advance to the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Open 2022?
Tokyo Open 2022
Even though Casper Ruud‘s recent defeat against Yoshihito Nishioka seemed bizarre, it’s possible that Ruud was just too exhausted by the time shift from London to Korea to put up much of a fight. The first-round matchup with Jaume Munar is tough, but Ruud should still be favored according to his higher rating and higher skill level. I think Munar will make a modest comeback in this match because he has had a good season, but Ruud will prevail and advance to the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Open 2022.
Despite Jaume Munar’s stellar season, I don’t see him pulling off the upset just yet. However, it wouldn’t be the craziest thing in the world either. I don’t think Ruud’s early exit in Korea will hurt him too much; instead, I’m interested to see if he can recover in time to beat Jaume Munar in the first round of the 2022 Tokyo Open and advance to the round of 16.
Casper Ruud has the upper hand in the head-to-head matchup, having defeated Jaume Munar both times they’ve faced off. While the data suggest that Ruud has a sizable advantage in this head-to-head matchup, it in no way lessens the difficulty of the task at hand. In their most recent matchup this season, played in Gstaad, Ruud prevailed in two sets of super tiebreaks. Even though I anticipate a close match, I think World No. 3 will prevail and advance in this 2022 Tokyo Open match.
