With her co-starring role with Dakota Johnson in Sony Pictures’ Marvel Comics adaption “Madame Web,” Sweeney has become a notable talent at the studio. The studio has also acquired the rights to produce a film based on Madison Lawson’s thriller The Registration. Sweeney is set to star in the film, which Brad Fuller is producing.

In addition to her film roles, Sweeney has risen to prominence thanks to her stellar performances in the pilots for both the HBO comedy series The White Lotus and the drama series Euphoria. She was recognized for her work on both shows this year with Emmy nominations.

The first “Barbarella,” released in 1968, stars Jane Fonda as the title character, a space traveler whose adventures were adapted from a French comic book series by writer and artist Jean-Claude Forest. Barbarella is largely considered one of Fonda’s most memorable on-screen characters, despite the film’s lackluster performance at the box office.

The many attempts over the years to remake or release a sequel to the original film by Roger Vadim have all failed.

The announcement of the project was initially published in Deadline.
