Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off – Proper Guide!

Reno, prepare to get covered in a hot, sticky, delicious mess.

Starting on Wednesday, August 31, the Nugget Casino Resort will host the Top in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off, a six-day event highlighting the best rib cookers in the United States.

On August 31, 2022, the Rib Cook-Off will resume at Victorian Square, in front of the Nugget Casino Resort. About 20 of the nation’s most extraordinary high-volume rib cookers compete at the event for the honor of being named Best in the West.

Before things get heated and dirty later this week, we’ve listed the basics you need to know.

Rib Cook-Off:

Competition rib cooks from all over the United States will converge on Reno for a chance at $19,500 in prize money.

  • Brothers BBQ, BJ’s Barbecue, Carson City BBQ, Big Daddy’s Sin City, and the reigning champion Git-R-Smoked are some Nevada-based contestants.
  • Other noteworthy competitors include Back Forty Texas BBQ from California (which came in second) and Montana Q Bar-B-Que House from Montana (which came in third) in the 2021 competition.

Rib Cook-Off

Music

The 2022 rib fest will include various musical performances, from country to dance. Some of the shows include the following:

  • Winner of American Idol Season 13 Caleb Johnson
  • Adam Sanders, a singer-songwriter
  • Arizona Jones and Valentine Rodeo, two local cover bands,
  • DJ M Slack

The Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, and other bands from the Rib Cook-Off.

Tickets

While admission is free, we offer a variety of VIP ticket packages for a more in-depth rib experience. Parking

Parking is always a hassle when attending a significant event in the Reno area. The East and West Parking lots at the Nugget are free, and a park-and-ride bus will take you to the event at no additional cost.

  • Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, at 1350 Wells Ave.

  • Greenbrae Shopping Center at 510 Greenbrae Dr. in Sparks

The shuttle service is available from Wednesday, August 31, through Sunday, September 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Free RTC rides are available to the event via the RAPID Lincoln Line and Route 11 for attendees.
