In a new oral history for The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki discuss their off-screen relationship in depth for the first time. When their upcoming book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, is released, fans will learn more about the actors’ on-screen romance from 2006 to 2008.
During elementary school, I had a massive crush on Johnny. I wasn’t trying to hide it at all. He just oozes confidence. Even though we were both seeing other people, I could only think about Johnny. Then I realized he was interested in me, too, and thought, Oh no, this might become complicated.” “Vanity Fair has an extract from the interview with Cuoco. Once upon a time, before Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki “had zero concepts of any type of infatuation.”
‘Big Bang Theory stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki
Penny and Leonard, played by Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki, have their first kiss in Season 1 Episode 6. It was also the first time the actors had kissed each other on camera.
It was clear there was something between us from the first time we met till we finally met in person. We were attracted to one other and had chemistry. Cuoco says That was the entire first season until we really came together for real, and I was so terrified.” “whenever they locked lips for the Halloween episode.
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: She continues, “It’s funny when you have a crush on someone and you’re kissing them as actors.” “I mean, I was kissing him as Penny before we even dated.” It took months for the two to finally kiss off camera, but even Galecki couldn’t deny that they had chemistry.
Later in Season 1, in the episode “The Nerdvana Annihilation,” Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki were required to shoot a dream scenario in which Leonard rescues Penny in the elevator shaft.
It was not a pleasant experience for me,” Cuoco recalls.
Because “it was a bit of a stunt that we were performing,” Galecki and his partner “had to be in each other’s arms — and for quite a long time.” It was one of those times when I thought, “Wow, that was really something.”
Cuoco chimes in, “I guess we fell a bit in love in that elevator shaft.”
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: Actually, we did get the impression that there was something there. That, I believe, marked a significant juncture in our relationship. When we realized that something was felt on both ends and that fighting it would be more of a distraction from our job than giving in to it, we both recognized it was time to let go and let love in Yes, Galecki confirms it.
After Cuoco and her fiancé broke up, she went on vacation with Galecki and the rest of the group to Montecito, California. The actress called Galecki and asked him to come to her cabin so she could have him kill an insect.
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: To this day, Galecki maintains, “I still don’t know whether this tale is bullshit or not and if she was flirting with me since she had just split up with her boyfriend,” but he insists he did not visit her cabin.
The insect in my room was certainly interested in me, and I was flirting with him. So, in fact, both were correct! I thought This could work to bring him inside! That, however, was not effective With a chuckle, Cuoco says. “It seemed unfathomable to me that he would reject me. In my head, he rejected me because he was onto me and knew what I was up to. Although I told him about the bug, he still didn’t come over.”
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: Not shortly after returning from that trip, Galecki took the initiative and asked Cuoco out on a wine date.
We began kissing in the bar area, and by the time we got out to the parking lot, we were already making out. Whereas I am the opposite and can’t stand being alone, Johnny may get lost in his thoughts and wants to hide. If it had been the following day, I would have mentioned it at the table read. When we finally got together, I would have made an announcement: It was then that he said emphatically, We can’t tell anybody!” Thus, we maintained silence, “According to Cuoco, back then. “Remember that things were unique back then.
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: Because social media wasn’t nearly as pervasive as it is now, it was less of a hassle to keep it under wraps. Back then, you had less experience with and knowledge of human nature. This is not the same old world.”
The performers ultimately informed the rest of the production team, but nobody seemed really shocked. Despite the seriousness of Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki’s relationship (at one point, he even adds, “Kaley and I did contemplate marriage”), Galecki’s need for solitude led to the two breaking up.

Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: Although we come from different worlds, we also appear to have some similarities. It was a great joy to learn new things together, but when I started desiring things you didn’t want, it became more difficult As Galecki elucidates,
A rift formed between us because of the contrast between my inflexible privacy restrictions and Kaley’s extreme transparency. I understand Kaley’s discomfort with the situation being made public since I felt quite uneasy about it myself This is what he says next. Not because I was ashamed of her or our connection, but rather to shield Penny and Leonard from negative attention from the media and preserve their popularity with the general public.
To continue, Galecki says “I like to keep to myself, but this made me nervous since we were working together and the show’s popularity was on the rise. And there was a time when it seemed like we were living a lie, going to events like award presentations and parties while acting as if we weren’t a couple, but in reality, we were a very devoted one.”
Although Galecki claims that they “had quite different interests in what I suppose we desired from our experience of life,” they remain good friends despite their first breakup.
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: Having pals like us is something I cherish. I give my connection with her the highest priority among all my other relationships, both past and future Indeed, he is generous in giving to others.
Cuoco did not seem to disagree with his assessment of the breakup, but she did provide further details.
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki: Since we both worked throughout the day, by the time we got home to one another’s apartments, all we could speak about was, So how was your day?” The jokes Simon made today were hilarious, right? We laughed since there was no suspense “That’s right, she can recall it.
However, we spent a lot of time together. We loved each other so much, and it’s a blessing that our separation was amicable and caused by no bad blood or ill will on either side That’s not the end of Cuoco’s explanation. “There was pain, to be sure, but it didn’t take us long to go back to being the friends we had been before we started dating. He attended the front rows of both of my nuptials and has been there for me every step of the way. We have a deep, mutual love for one another.”
The details of Galecki’s personal life remain hidden. In 2020, the actor ended his relationship with model Alaina Meyer. They’re both parents to the same boy. Cuoco, meantime, is linked romantically to Tom Pelphrey of Ozark fame. They were seen holding hands on the red carpet at the 2022 Emmys, so it seems that they are both comfortable with the public display of their love.
